ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT
Chris McIntosh ’78,’81, Moscow, returned to the University of Idaho in 1999 after serving on the faculty of the University of Georgia for 11 years, where he received prestigious teaching awards. In Idaho Falls from 2000 to 2007, McIntosh developed the agribusiness degree program for the Idaho Falls campus, coordinated distance education classes between Moscow and Idaho Falls, and taught numerous independent study courses to meet needs of non-traditional students. Back in Moscow as a faculty researcher and chair of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology undergraduate committee, he helped design the new undergraduate curriculum, preparing students for tomorrow’s job market.

Bahman Shafii ’80,’82,’88, Moscow, has served CALS for 20 years as director of statistical programs, and more recently as a professor teaching statistics. His reputation reaches well beyond the UI, and he is frequently asked to be a keynote speaker at national and international meetings. Shafii works with an exceptionally large number of graduate students and regularly organizes workshops in statistical methods and computing across campus. He is known for his open door and willingness to patiently help people understand statistics—an important quality for the many students who dread the statistical analyses of their research.

Kathee Tifft ’88, ’01, Lewiston. See Distinguished Alum story

DISTNGUISHED ALUMNI
Carol Anderson ’92, Poulsbo, Wash., is president and CEO of Money Quotient, a non-profit education and communications company that blends financial knowledge with self-knowledge to achieve financial well-being. She developed Financial Life Planning tools used by financial professionals to provide more holistic, client-centered services. Anderson’s early work in life-planning concepts helped bring “life planning” validation and acceptance in the financial services industry. She credits the University of Idaho for support and encouragement that gave her courage to undertake this pioneering work.

Anna Davis ’67, ’77
, Caldwell, spent most of her 40-year UI career in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences as the “computer guru” of UI Extension statewide. Her responsi bilities included computer support for offices from Bonners Ferry to Bear Lake and required much travel and many hours working in the middle of the night when computers were not in use. Davis not only provided out- standing technical support, but she was known for teaching the most confusing computer concepts in a manner that everyone could understand. Her retirement will bring her new opportunities to be with family, but her university family misses her.

Betty Sawyer ’72,’77, Potlatch, teaches a variety of family and consumer sciences courses at Potlatch Junior and Senior High Schools. She obtained grant funds to establish an embroidery business run by her students. She is so successful at teaching budgeting and banking skills that her students have won numerous national awards. Sawyer is a 4-H leader, journalist, and photographer for her local newspaper, active in her church, and serves on the Potlatch Arts Council.

DISTINGUISHED ASSOCIATE
Sue Reents, Boise, former Idaho State Senator for District 19, has committed herself to improving the lives of families and children through better health, education, and social legislation. Her work includes involvement with Idaho KIDS COUNT, Idaho Voices for Children, and Coalition for a Healthy Idaho. Reents played a key role in securing $2.3 million from the 2000 Millennium Fund established for health and anti-tobacco programs. Her strengths in organizing, fund raising, communicating, and following through have enabled her to achieve results that will have a long-lasting influence on Idaho.
